When Justin Nelson first stepped into the financial world, he couldn’t foresee the impact he would
have on future generations of Tufts students. As a 1998 graduate of Tufts
University, Justin Nelson began his journey at JP Morgan as a web developer. His career trajectory took
him from New York City to the private banking division, and eventually to the
role of Managing Director in asset management, based in Greenwich, Connecticut. 

Nelson’s commitment to supporting Tufts students began in earnest in 2006. Recognizing the
challenges he faced in securing a finance internship, Justin Nelson set out to make JP Morgan a core recruiting school for
Tufts. Initially, his efforts were largely self-funded, involving numerous
trips to the Hill to meet with students and collect résumés. 

Despite the initial hurdles, Nelson’s determination paid off. By 2009, Tufts had become one of JP
Morgan’s core schools for asset management recruitment. Since then, 20 Tufts
graduates have secured internships or full-time positions at the financial giant,
thanks to Nelson’s advocacy. 

One such graduate is Jon Trott, who landed an internship at JP Morgan during the tumultuous
period following the financial crisis. Trott credits Nelson for his break into
the industry, which led to a full-time role after his graduation in 2010. 

Nelson’s efforts have not only benefited individual students but have also established a robust
network of Tufts alumni within JP Morgan. This network actively participates in
recruiting, screening résumés, and mentoring students. Nelson himself has contributed
to the Tufts Financial Network by speaking at events designed to educate students
about the finance industry. 

Justin Nelson remains passionate about his mission to support Tufts students. He encourages
fellow alumni involved in recruiting to advocate for their alma mater, ensuring
that Tufts continues to be a pipeline for talented individuals entering JP
